How many watched Donald J Trump being sworn in this afternoon as the 45th President of the United States? He is probably, as I type, sitting in the Oval Office tweeting away to his heart's content. We all know he would rather be tweeting than getting down to some serious paperwork, but he's got all those election promises to keep.
Not to mention the immediate - and serious - fact that trouble is brewing in the South China Sea, China has said it would use military force if the United States tries to block its access to artificial islands in the South China Sea (which I think is being considered). Can anyone see Donald Trump giving a damn about that? He always refers anyway to China in derogatory terms and would probably say something along the lines of "bring it on" and start dropping bombs.
He's only been in office five minutes, but I can see WWIII looming on the horizon. He's not going to have much time for tweeting, unless it is to the Chinese leadership.
I remember Obama's inauguration eight years ago when everyone was so happy and excited to have their first black President, and it seems to me that the tone today was very different from that. And I certainly don't remember anything about violent protests breaking out on the streets, which I understand has been going on this afternoon.
So I wish President Trump, and all the American people, the very best of luck.
Thank you. We shall need it.
