The weather here has been grey and damp for as long as I can remember, but this morning I had an appointment with an optician so dragged myself out of my lovely warm flat, and on to the bus to Summertown.
Breaking the habit of a lifetime I bought a 'Daily Mirror'. It's headline was 'President Hypocrite', and across the rest of the front page it says : 'Trump preaches buy American, but in his 5 star hotel across the road from the White House we find he puts America last!'. It then listed the origins of everything in his hotel rooms -
The 55 inch televisions are made by the nasty Mexicans.
The bathrobes, lamps and scales are made in China*
Room phones - Malaysia
Bath towels - India
Bed linen - Italy
Toiletries - Canada
Finally - a classy looking brass plated bin was made in Britain.
*I have to say here that I visited a factory in China and found the working and living conditions of the workforce to be quite good. Not only that, but the workers are enabled to send money home to their families in the rural areas, and to buy for themselves western consumer items. So I am all in favour of products made in China.
I have just seen that the petition to stop Trump has passed the one million mark.
What was Theresa May thinking of? Kim Jon Un would get a warmer welcome.

The President has also not interfered with the regulatory change lately enacted by Congress under the Obama Administration, which allow corporations to desist from showing place-of-origin on the labels attached to their products. Now many offer uninformative language such as "distributed by XYZ Corp, Chicago, IL" Odd that President Trump urges "Buy American" whilst origins are hidden!
