Sunday 24th

I joined Tim at the 8 o'clock service this morning.   I think the content of the sermon would have been quite good, if it had only been delivered better, but it was read from a sheet of paper and I don't think the speaker once took his eyes off the paper to look at the congregation - and that's anaethema to me.   In my theological college we wouldn't have got away with that.   When we had to give presentations to our peers (to practice as it were)  we had to look up from time to time, we had to 'engage' with the audience.

I don't know who it was who gave the sermon, but I would hasten to say it wasn't one of our clergy - they would have known better - it was an amateur.

Walking back home I stopped to take a photo of St Hugh's College, which is just down the road from me  (I'm really living in a wonderful area here).

St Hugh's was founded in 1886 by Elizabeth Wordsworth,  a great niece of the poet, who was a passionate supporter of women's education, and had already founded Lady Margaret Hall.   With money from her father, the bishop of Lincoln, she named her new establishment after St Hugh of Avalon, who had held the see of Lincoln in the 12th century.

One or two other pictures on my desktop ..............

Dearest Tim - recently at his Master's graduation.

and with Davina, who also came.

If the sun is shining tomorrow I will take some pictures of where I am living.

  1. Your neighbourhood does look a lovely area. Sorry about the amateurish homiletics, "stuff happens," as we say. Congratulations to Tim and best wishes to you, dear friend.
