I wasn't at the 8 o'clock Communion last Sunday morning, I had a lie-in
as Tim and family have gone to China for the holiday. My friends, David and Gwyneth, picked me up for a carol service at St Andrew's on Sunday afternoon. It wasn't the best carol service I have ever been to, we were up in the gallery looking down, thinks "I could get vertigo up here". Afterwards we joined the rest of the congregation over mince pies and mulled wine.
On Monday I went to my bank in Summertown to change £1 coins which had accumulated in a pot, but they couldn't do that because they have been undergoing some modernisation works and no longer have a counter (thinks "call yourself a bank") Where the counter used to be they have installed ATMs; there are pretty armchairs and coffee tables dotted about where the staff deal with customers enquiries. Thinking about it, it is not unlike 'Banc First' in Shawnee, except that Banc First has refreshment facilities. I used to use them but never saw anyone else do so, I got to wondering if they were supposed to be just for the staff. But probably the people of Shawnee are too busy to be languishing in armchairs in their banks, sipping tea and coffee. I tried another bank along the road and they couldn't change them either, it was suggested I take them into the City.
The weather here is not good at the moment, it is very damp out. If it brightens up I might go into town and 'people watch' over a cup of tea and scone in M&S's café.
I am looking forward to Christmas. Jeremy and his good friend Janet are coming to Oxford where Jeremy has booked a table for lunch. Janet is a lovely friend who took care of him when he was recovering from his heart surgery. She took good care of us too when I momentarily passed out at her dinner table a few weeks ago, and they called out the paramedics.
I hope all of you dear friends reading this that you have a wonderful Christmas.
