Got back yesterday afternoon from a lovely weekend with Jeremy in Oxted, Surrey. He has a lot of work on at the moment so was busy, but I didn't mind, I was happy to just hang out with him, and I've always got my toys with me.
We went out to dinner on Friday, and on Saturday saw the movie "The Arrival". It was science fiction, and the plot was a bit too convoluted for me to follow. Also there were a lot of flash forwards, but I thought at the time they were flashbacks, which didn't help my understanding, but never mind it was a joy for me to be seeing it with Jeremy. And - GET THIS my friends in the US - in the cinema foyer there is a bar where we could buy a glass of wine and some guacamole with chips, and take them into the auditorium. Perhaps a member of Emmanuel reading this might like to tell Ronnie Jones, and suggest this could be a better deal in his cinemas in Shawnee than buckets of popcorn and Coke (although I have my doubts about alcohol being allowed in highly conservative Oklahoma). He could improve the range of soft drinks and snacks though.
The weather was dry this morning, but it has been quite damp so when I went out I picked my way nervously along the wet leaves, although most of them on my route to the church have been swept up. A church member slipped on them last week and broke her collar bone - and she isn't even elderly.
I have volunteered at the church to help out with the Mothers and Toddlers Group on Tuesday mornings from 10 to 12, and had my "orientation" today, observing. They meet on Wednesdays as well but I think I will just go on Tuesdays.
The children aren't dropped off, the mothers or nannies (mainly nannies I think) and one or two fathers, have to stay with them, and there is a wonderful selection of very good toys spread over three large rooms, or play areas, and our main focus as helpers is to be welcoming. The session ends gathering around for a little sing song, and I'm told they always sing the same songs each week, which the children know and like.
So that has been the last few days for me.
Glad you've got to be with Jeremy. I like your suggestion for the cinema; reminds me of going to see a film with a mate of mine once in the Netherlands, beforehand sitting on sumptuous couches in the foyer whilst being served wonderful cocktails and food by handsome lasses...The Mothers and Toddlers Progamme sounds quite nice; here we are frequenly occupied babysitting with the red-headed, blue-eyed Moira, who will be aged one year on the twentieth of this month.
