It was a lovely warm, summer's day today, but shame on me, I was still languishing in bed reading, when Tim stopped by just after 10. However I was soon up and dressed and on the bus to Oxford. I strolled round trying to familiarise myself with the City, looking at the colleges, I went round Balliol and Trinity.
Balliol was founded in 1263, and even to me that sounds old. over 750 years. Trinity is more modern, 1555. There is intense and bitter rivalry between the two and is said to have started when Trinity's founder, Sir Thomas Pope, took some land from Balliol back in the 16th century. Time, I would have thought, to let bygones be bygones.
I feel I did a sort of general recce of the City, and will go back to have a closer look at some of the sights.
