Saturday/Sunday

I haven't done a lot this weekend - yesterday, Saturday, I went to a fund raising African Dinner at the church, in aid of a school in Sierra Leone which St Andrew's supports.   I guess it was supposed to be an African meal, it was a kind of beef stew with rice and sweet corn, not strictly English cuisine but it was something that could have been served up on a Wednesday night in Oklahoma.  It was quite nice.

It must have raised quite a bit of money, I haven't heard yet how much but there was an auction after the meal with a lot of prizes, and nothing went for less than £100.   Certainly a very well heeled, affluent congregation.   There was a raffle as well with a lot of prizes, mostly bottles of wine.   I thought they disdained raffles but maybe it is just afghans they don't want.

This morning, Sunday, I thought I would see what the 11.15 service was like - there are four services at St Andrew's on a Sunday, which is more than most churches here, at 8.00, 9.30, 11.15 and 6.00.  The 11.15 was a traditional Church of England matins.   The 9.30 and 6 o'clock are the happy clappy which I am not so keen on now.   I used to like happy clappy, I think I must have been weaned off it at Emmanuel.

This evening Marie stopped by and took me to a meal at their home, which was nice.

I am hoping to catch the Presidential debate later on, I am still interested in American politics but  glad not to have to vote for either of them.   Trump isn't very presidential and I am not convinced of Hilary Clinton and the Clinton Foundation's integrity.

  1. We are actually into happy clappy here, as our newest granddaughter has learnt to clap and, in fact, insists on leading group clapping. She is aged ten months.
