Monday 20th June

Returned last night from a lovely weekend spent with son Jeremy in Oxted, Surrey.   It is hard to describe Oxted for Americans as their small towns are different, can I say, not quite as pretty.   At least small town Shawnee isn't, perhaps I shouldn't make such sweeping generalisations when there is a vast nation of small town America outside Oklahoma I haven't seen.  Thinking about it now, I wish I had taken a photo of the main street.   As I say, it is very pretty, and lovely to see people strolling up and down and looking in the shops.  My bedroom window overlooked the main street, so I had a good view of them.

Shawnee - for the benefit of English readers - has most of its shopping area laid out in the north of the town, where there is a huge Walmart, restaurants, a big shopping Mall and hundreds of acres of parking places.   And only the homeless are walking, or stumbling about, on the grass verges.

Being big movie fans we'd thought of going to the cinema but Jeremy wasn't feeling too good, and we were having an enjoyable time together with his friend Janet.     Janet invited us for  Sunday lunch of roast lamb and its trimmings, hmm, hmm, hmm, which she'd promised when I was still back in Shawnee.

The weather is very wet here, it has rained heavily all the morning but might be drying up a bit now, I might stroll into Summertown for a bit of exercise.

  1. The repast of lamb and trimmings sounds heavenly. As you know, lamb is a bit scarce in this part of the States. Once we lived in western Kentucky where lamb is a primary staple.

    1. Yes, the roast lamb was promised me when I was bemoaning the fact that I'd never seen any in Oklahoma.
