Well, it is all over. The weeks of Party Political Broadcasts, all the "Vote for Me" pamphlets landing with a thump on my doormat every day. Now is the time for the recriminations, and I understand the Prime Minister has apologised to all her colleagues who have just needlessly lost their seats because she thought it would be a good idea to call a General Election to increase her majority - although the one she had was adequate, and certainly better than she has now, But we all make errors of judgement, whether we are prime minister or shop assistant.
Women seem to have done well. At the close of the 2015-17 Parliament there were 453 male MPs and 196 females. Now there are 208 females, a lot more than there were when I was young.
Parliament doesn't hold any data about MPs ethnicity - how politically incorrect would THAT be - but sources suggest that 41 MPs elected in May 2015 defined themselves as being from an ethnic minority.
Browsing through these facts I was astonished to learn that their annual salary is £74,962 (95,000 USD) )as of 1 April 2016. When did they become so well off? Again - when I was young - they were always pleading poverty and it was a well known fact that no one without a private income could afford to be an MP, so they've had some massive pay increases while I wasn't looking.
Another fact I came across that interested me is that the Queen's Speech (at the Opening of Parliament) is written on goatskin, then it has to dry for a week, What's wrong with an A4 legal pad?
Changing the subject - Trump is not coming on a state visit after all (and he was so looking forward to riding in the state carriage with the Queen, aaahhh), A campaign group known as "Stand up to Racism" were demonstrating outside the US Embassy, all wearing Donald Trump masks and carrying placards saying "No to Trump" and "No to Racism". So he told Theresa May he does not want to come until the British public supports him coming.
As for me - I'm feeling a lot better from my stiffness, but my eye still looks dreadful where it hit the pavement.
